re-thinking benbot

So i have been looking and re-thinking all of the very small things that are wrong with my benbot. I was looking at it and thought to my self that the extruder will limit my print area, and no one wants that! Then I thought of the Ulitimaker. It uses a tube that the filament goes through, and the gear extruder is acutely held off to the side of the printer. So that the hot end can get a max size for the printer.

I decided that i need that on my printer! So in hope of not having the re-invent the extruder, I hopped on Thingiverse and found my self a duel extruder that works the same way as the ultimaker so this link here will be used in my printer. I guess i will use duel extrusion because with all of the stuff out for it now its like why not! so im working on a way to take that model and make it work on gears. These gears to be exact, because I have no idea how to use opencad and again, I don't want to re-make things that are already out in the world.

Almost done

I'm super stoked on how far i have gotten with this printer in the last few days. I feel as if not to many people understood how i was planning on the x and y to work so now i have pictures to show. The x ends are my modification thinned out ends to make you able to print more size. and the smooth rods have a little bit extra on the ends so that you can put a gear on the 4 ends so that when the motor moves the one rod it all moves smoothly back and forth.
This is a grate idea i think. with just one exception... the belt that you need to drive the x has to be tight and would mess up how my y works with it all. it would make it so that i need those thicker x ends and tight rods. But as i didn't want either of those, this idea is now going to change around a little bit.
Because every thing else on this printer is gears why not just make them all gears. so I'm thinking about taking two gear rails and making them replace the smooth rods. then have a smooth strip on top of th…

BenBot rethought out

The picture on the left shows what im planning on for my z bed movement. its going to have the z motor mounted to the bottom side of the bed but with a way of gearing every thing like a geared extruder would. It's all going to be done with one motor and gears, not 2 motors and rods like the prusa mendel is. Doing things this way makes it so that i can print all the parts for it and have a very large z height .

Now this picture (on the right) is the bottom of printer so far. It just has the corers put togethor and all the working clips. im going to be putting in the z shaft latter today. i have to thing if i want it to be printed into one of the corner pieces or if i want it to be able to snap in and out easily. The idea of putting it on clips would make it a bit more easy to scale it all up. but i dont see why its not possible the other way as well.

This is the clip that will be holding every thing together, it fits inside of its self so the model can be cut up and put into a ton…
